Applications must be submitted to the Board office at least 92 days prior to the desired examination date.

NORTH AMERICAN VETERINARY LICENSING EXAMINATION (NAVLE)

 

Dates of Examination are

 

November 17, 2008 - December 13, 2008 Application due in Board office by 5:00 p.m. August 1, 2008

April 13, 2009 - April 25, 2009 Application due in Board office by 5:00 p.m. January 2, 2009

 

Applications must be in the Board office by 5:00pm the day of the deadline

 

 

The North American Veterinary Licensing Examination is a computerized test given at Prometric Test Centers. Once the candidate has been approved by the State Licensing Board, they apply thru, the National Board Veterinary Medical Examiners mails instructions approximately 45 days prior to the opening of the testing window. Candidates are mailed instructions which include a scheduling permit to make an appointment at any Prometric testing center, this scheduling permit is also used to gain admittance to their scheduled date of examination.

 

Candidates are required to meet the requirements and deadline of their selected State Board of Veterinary Medicine. The national passing score for this examination is 425.

 

 

Applicants not seeking a North Carolina license should NOT apply for the NAVLE thru North Carolina.

It is required to apply thru the State in which you are seeking to become licensed.

 

 

North Carolina fee is $600.00. This fee is for NAVLE only. Made payable to the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board. (N.C.V.M.B.)

Applicants understand they will be required to obtain a license to practice veterinary medicine in North Carolina. Failure to apply for a license within one year of graduation constitutes misrepresentation to the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board and could be grounds for the denial of licensure at any time in the future by the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board.

 

The Board office provides updates to the status of an applicants file by mail. These updates are sent at regular intervals until the file has been completed.

Appilcant's file must be completed 7 days prior to the examination date. If file is not complete, applicant will not be eligible for examination.

North Carolina does not provide NAVLE scores by telephone.

 

 

Instructions to All Applicants:

 

  • Application form must be mailed, (overnighted due to time constrain), or hand delivered directly to North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board office. North Carolina does not accept NAVLE applications from online sources.
  • Copy of Social Security Card submitted with application. Social Security disclosure is mandated by N.C.G.S. 110-142, et. seq.
  • Have graduated or be within 8 months of expected graduation date from accredited school/college of veterinary medicine.
  • Completed, type or print, Application must be in the Board office by 5:00pm the day of the deadline.
  • Submitted before NAVLE application deadline a Deans letter sent directly from school/college. Deans letter must state that you are enrolled in the veterinary program at that school/college, are a fourth year student and state your pending graduation date.
  • Graduates from non-accredited foreign school/colleges of veterinary medicine see below
  • Request for ADA accommodations see below.

 

 

Information Regarding ADA Accommodations

 

Requesting special accommodations for an examination must provided in writing to the Board office at time of application. This should include all information concerning the disabilities and state what accommodations are being requested. The applicant is responsible for this written submission and support documentation by the application deadline.

Graduates from Non-Accredited Foreign College/School of Veterinary Medicine:

 

Must have completed the AVMA Program for Foreign Veterinary Graduates before applying thru North Carolina for the NAVLE.

Written proof of ECFVG completion must be provided to NCVMB. For documentation purposes it will need to be mailed directly to NCVMB from the AVMA by NAVLE application deadline.

After Applicants have made application to the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board, and the applications forwarded to NBVME, questions concerning scheduling, lost permits, etc. will need to be directed to the National Board Veterinary Medical Examiners.
