Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE)

This National Examination is administrated by the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board. It is one phase needed to obtain a veterinary technician registration in North Carolina. Must have graduated from an AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association ) accredited program to be eligible to sit for this National Examination. Click on the heading for more information concerning VTNE. Passing score for this examination is 425.

 

Results of the January and June administrations of this examination are received approximately in *8 weeks.

* This is dependant on when the National Examination Company provides results to Board office. NC does not provide VTNE scores by phone.

 

 

 

Veterinary Technician State Examination

Veterinary Technician State Examination is a 100 question test, consisting of 70 true/false and 30 multiple choice questions. It is based on the North Carolina Veterinary Practice Act. Click on the heading for more information on the Veterinary Technician State Exanimation. Passing score for this examination is 70.

 

Must have graduated from an AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association ) accredited program and have a passing score on VTNE to be eligible to sit for the Veterinary Technician State Examination.

 

Please note the term Registered Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Technician is reserved for individuals that has graduated from an accredited program in veterinary technology, passed the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE), passed the Veterinary Technician State Examination, is registered with the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board and maintains an active registration.

 

In North Carolina if a individual is not registered or maintains an active registration, to directly, or indirectly, imply such is a misrepresentation to the public and a violation of the Veterinary Practice Act.
