North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE)

North Carolina requires that the application form be mailed directly to its office. Applications done online, or thru other States will not be approved by North Carolina. This computer based test is administrated at Prometric Test Centers for the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. NAVLE replaced the National Board Examination and the Clinical Competency Test as of November 2001. Passing score for this examination is 425.

 

**Persons not seeking licensure in North Carolina should not apply for NAVLE thru North Carolina**

 

When an applicant applies for the NAVLE and has been approved by North Carolina it is to comply with one phase of the licensure process for North Carolina. The Applicant understands that they will be obligated to become licensed in North Carolina within one year of graduation.

 

Results of April administration of NAVLE are received in the Board office approximately by *May 15th.

Results of November/December administration of NAVLE are received in the Board office approximately *February 1st.

*These dates are dependant on the National Examination company and when the results are provided to NC.

NC does not provide NAVLE scores by phone.

 

 

 

Veterinary State Examination

Veterinary State Examination is a 100 question test, consisting of 70 true/false and 30 multiple choice questions. It is based on the North Carolina Veterinary Practice Act. A passing score for this examination is 70. Click on heading above for more information on the Veterianray State Exaination.

 

Results for this examination are known approximately in 2 weeks.

 

**It should be noted**

 

In order to provide veterinary services to the public in North Carolina an individual must have been provided a *temporary permit certificate or a veterinary license.

*Temporary permit certificate is a provision of the Veterinary Practice Act. It can be issued to a qualified applicant who has yet to sit for a veterinary state examination. Further information is provided by clicking the heading above.
